Welcome to A2i's October 2007 Newsletter.

October has been an exciting month for A2i.

We were nominated for a top business award, and launched a great new restaurant offer which should help all our hospitality customers get ready for the Christmas rush, whilst meeting the new No Smoking laws and Disability Discrimination Act regulations.

In this issue:

Restaurant and hotels - save £40 in November

A2i is currently running a great offer for restaurants. Our special offer means that you can order a special package of Braille signs, and receive a FREE copy of your menu in Braille*, saving up to £40.

A2i Restaurant Offer

Braille menus improve your image to everyone, and get more people through the door. And when you have a blind visitor, you are ready to serve them.

Plus our Braille Signage helps you to meet your legal requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), while making your restaurant more accessible.

Braille Menus: A2i will translate your menu into Braille. In addition, you will receive a FREE window sticker and you will be listed on our FREE restaurant directory. The directory publicises restaurants with Braille and Large Print menus and is regularly advertised to the blind community.

Special Offer:

To get your FREE Braille menu*, all you have to do is order our special restaurant package. This includes Braille and Tactile signage for 2 toilet doors, and a
No Smoking sign - all you need to comply with recent legislation and give your restaurant that competitive edge.

A2i nominated for top business award

A2i owner, Susie Fisher, was last week selected as a finalist for the Evening Post/ Jurys Hotel Business Person of the Year awards. This followed the monthly award that she won last October.

A2i staff, colleagues and friends were guests at the prestigious event held at Jury’s Hotel on Thursday 25th October.

Susie was interviewed on stage in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd, and the evening was a great success. Although, Susie did not win the annual award it was a great achievement to be selected and take part in this event.

Susie said: "It's great that our achievements at A2i have been recognised in this way. Hopefully 2008 will be just as successful, and we can continue to help visually impaired people receive the information they want and need."

Congratulations to the winners the Big Tall Order internet clothing firm.

21% of No Smoking signs displayed break the law -
are you legal?

It has been 3 months since the new No Smoking legislation came in to force in England, and even longer for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. However, statistics show that a lot of people are still breaking the law by having signs that do not meet the regulations. Check that you have the right signs...

Research shows that, in England, 97% of premises have been implementing the new no-smoking legislation, and stopping people from smoking on their premises. However, only 79% are displaying the correct no-smoking signs*.

There is a fixed penalty of £200 for not displaying appropriate signage. This can increase to £1000 if you are convicted.

All public places, workplaces and vehicles are required to display no-smoking signs. The signs must be displayed in a prominent position at every entrance to smoke-free premises. Signs must:

  • be a minimum of A5 in area (210mm x 148mm),
  • display the international no-smoking symbol, which consists solely of a graphic representation of a single burning cigarette enclosed in a red circle of at least 70mm in diameter with a red bar across it, and
  • carry the following words in characters that can be easily read: "No smoking. It is against the law to smoke in these premises".

A2i offer next day delivery of No Smoking signs that meet all legislative requirements. They also include the legally required text in Braille, making them more accessible and DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant. They cost £11.25 - much less than the potential penalty if you are caught without one!
